This treatise was considered a seminal work on the subject in the 18th century, to the point that it was included in Ricard's works, which had a considerable impact at the time. Several of the text's strengths can be highlighted: First, it offers valuable insights into the law of obligations under the Ancien Régime (see p. 180 for the study of the concept of condition). It is also an excellent record of family law under the Ancien Régime (on the consequences of adultery, the status of illegitimate children, and those condemned to civil death in matters of donation). Finally, it examines the law of the trust, an institution that disappeared from French law while remaining in Anglo-Saxon law.
