    P. is the first author to have, in the most general way, taken the position of rejecting the principles of Roman law as the foundation of the law of obligations: “The principles of Roman law on the different kinds of pacts and on the distinction between contracts and simple agreements, not being founded on natural law, and being very far removed from its simplicity, are not admitted into our law” (p. 7). Besides the well-known contributions to the law of obligations contained in this text, one can highlight some less frequently cited passages, such as the one containing (paras. 91 ff.) the “rules for the interpretation of agreements,” which, in about ten paragraphs, constitutes a valuable analysis of the 12 methods of interpretation adopted by the author.
