    The aim of this work is to introduce the French public, in a rigorously scholarly manner, to the most salient features of the 1948 Italian Constitution. This is achieved both through a synthesis of the historical and constitutional developments that have taken place in Italy since the granting of the statute, and through an analysis of the solutions the Constitution provided to the main problems that are fundamental to the very structure of the modern state in our time. The volume is preceded by a few pages by Rivero, a professor at the University of Poitiers, who draws a parallel between the Italian Constitution and the French Constitution of 1946. Their points of affinity are highlighted, especially in light of the political and social forces and needs that gave rise to them: an affinity, as Rivero himself aptly states, that lies much more in the method and structure of the texts, and in the enunciation of general principles, than in the conception of individual institutions. These are followed by various writings which, despite their brevity, have the character of accomplished monographs. It should be noted, however, that the different authors generally did not limit themselves to an exposition, however brilliant, of the principles enshrined in the Italian Charter, but often presented their considered opinions on the most debated issues.
