The first volume of the course taught during the Second World War includes a historical and philosophical introduction to criminal law. The course, which then focuses on "criminal law proper," is divided into several chapters: the offense; the offender; penology; the measurement of punishment; and the complex modalities of the offense and the punishment. The first part, devoted to criminal law, is therefore entirely covered in this handout, although the procedure mentioned in the preliminary remarks is not addressed. This course constitutes the foundation and preparatory work for the publication of his Treatise on Criminal Law and Penal Legislation, which appeared in 1947. It is not held at the Cujas and BNF libraries (but is available at the PSG and BEDJS libraries).
