(Dupin no. 1780). Jousse is one of the most important commentators on the ordinances and edicts of the 17th century. His commentary on the edict concerning ecclesiastical jurisdiction was vehemently condemned by the clergy themselves, who denounced it as a work written against the rights of the Church. The assembly of the clergy in 1765 considered drafting a counter-commentary under the direction of the Bishop of Senlis and the Bishop of Auxerre, to “destroy the bad impressions already made by the Orléans commentary.” This counter-commentary, however, was never published. Finally, it should be noted that this edition contains a very useful collection of texts on the subject from 1580 to 1756. A rare first edition in one volume.
