    The work includes the Bookseller's Note; Preliminary Discourse and Reflections; the Author's Preface; the New Translation of the Treatise; the Judgment of a Famous Professor; a Reply to a work entitled “Notes and Observations on the Book of Crimes and Punishments”; and a Commentary on the Book of Crimes and Punishments (by Voltaire). This is the last edition of this masterpiece, which the author wrote at the age of only 27. It is the most complete edition, notably with Voltaire's commentary, and is based on the last Italian edition published in Paris in 1766. Dupin, ref. 371, provides us with an almost exhaustive bibliography on this treatise: This work, composed in Italian by the Marquis of Beccaria, caused a great sensation when it was published in 1764. It was immediately translated into several languages ​​and considered a classic. Abbé Morellet was the first to translate it into French. He made some changes to the order and arrangement of the material. Voltaire composed a commentary on this work, printed in 1766 in octavo format and included in his collected works. The commentary was also reprinted in the Italian edition in 5 volumes, duodecimo, published in Bassano in 1797. In 1773, a new translation of the Treatise on Crimes and Punishments was published, authored by Chaillou de Lisy, a lawyer in parliament, born in Bourges on January 9, 1742, and who died in December 1817. This did not prevent the subsequent reprinting of Abbé Morellet's translation. The Marquis de Beccaria (Cesar-Bone Sana), born around 1720, died in 1794. André Morellet, born in Lyon in 1727, former member of the French Academy, member of the National Institute, died in Paris in 1819.
