    We present here one of the most important publications of the diocesan synod of Benedict XIV. Indeed, Book 8 devotes a large part to the law of obligations and the law of sale. Benedict XIV—P. Lambertini—firmly opposes the prevailing theories, particularly those of Calvin, Ch. Dumoulin, and Saumaise, to reaffirm what he had written three years earlier in his encyclical “Vix pervennit.” He was considered one of the greatest scholars among the popes, and he wrote extensively both before and after his election to the papacy. De Synodo Dioecesana remains one of the most important modern works of canon law, particularly due to its great influence. It is often considered an adaptation of general ecclesiastical law to diocesan administration. Very rare. Not held by Cujas or the BNF (National Library of France).
