    Papon's collection of judgments is one of the best known, if not the best known. This is due to its age and especially to the fact that it was essentially a digest, Papon having synthesized the treatises of Le Maistre, Le Coq, Imbert, Boyer, and Guidon Pape. Naturally, this work, based on judgments to which the author had not had direct access, suffered from a number of inaccuracies. This led Coquille, for example, to say that he had not consulted Papon, since in some points Papon reported the facts accurately but in others he was completely mistaken. At the beginning of the 17th century, more scholarly editions of Papon's collections began to appear, modified and augmented with recent judgments. (Author's edition augmented by J.
