Gaudemet speaks of Duranton's Treatise in these terms: “Duranton was a very hard worker. He is one of the very few authors who succeeded in publishing, entirely on his own, a comprehensive treatise on civil law. He began in 1819 with a four-volume Treatise on Contracts and Obligations in General. In 1825, he began publication of his major work: Course of French Civil Law According to the Civil Code, completed in 1837, when the first volumes were already in their third edition. The fourth and final edition appeared in 22 volumes, from 1844 to 1845. One author, Lagrange, devoted an entire book to the study of this work, whose success, as all these facts tell us, was immediate and undisputed.” Our edition is perfectly consistent, which is very rare.
