Symptomatically dedicated to the King, this text, published in 1663, constitutes one of the first skirmishes that preceded, under the reign of Louis XIV, the Affair of the Regalia and the Declaration of 1682, which were the most violent acts of this monarch's Gallicanism. Pinsson, one of the most ardent Gallicans (he wrote notably on the Affair of the Regalia and published the last edition of Dumoulin's works, including his texts with canonical implications), here reiterates the idea, often expressed before, that the Pragmatic Sanction of Bourges by Charles VII had in fact been preceded by an act of the same nature under the seal of Saint Louis, which similarly compelled the Pope to recognize the authority of the council and the clergy of France to recognize the authority of the King. A very rare text (missing at Berkeley, Harvard AUP 3127; BNF shelfmark 4-LD7-6). A fine copy.
