MARTENS (Georg Frédéric de)
SUMMARY OF MODERN EUROPEAN LAW BASED ON TREATIES AND CUSTOM, to serve as an introduction to a political and diplomatic course, 3rd ed.
Édition :
    Göttingen
Date :
    1821
octavo, brown Bradel binding, smooth spine, green title page, (top of the 2nd plate trimmed, some foxing, library mark), XL-606 p.
First published in Latin in 1785, it received a French edition in 1788 and then a German edition in 1796. But the author of this fundamental text continued to revise and amend it. Thus, our edition is more than 100 pages longer than the previous one published in 1801. It should be noted that after the author's death, the French editions continued to be published with Pinheiro-Ferrera's notes (Paris, 1864), attesting to the extreme importance of this text, which some consider to have been written by the last of the authors of the heroic age and others by the first modern author of public international law (see Truyol, p. 90).
