3 vols. in-4, brown half-calf, smooth spine richly decorated with arabesques and fleurons, title and volume slipcase in black morocco, yellow edges, (covers very rubbed, small wormhole at the bottom of the spine of vol. 1 and 2, old restoration of the paper of about 10 leaves of vol. 3), fresh text, XVI-791 / 699-VI / 379-78 p.
Dupin (no. 1473) emphasizes that this is the “best work on notarial practice” after the Revolution. Indeed, this text is of major interest for several reasons. It opens with a speech given by the author at the beginning of his course on notarial practice at the Academy of Legislation—which preceded the Faculty of Law until 1806—a speech not mentioned by Hayem in his bibliography. It then contains general dissertations, among which those relating to the duties of notaries and the law of obligations are particularly noteworthy. It also includes a number of models for all the documents drawn up by notaries. Finally, it contains an analysis of the conditions for divorce and the notarial acts necessary for it, which, by definition, are not found in any other 19th-century text. An important and sought-after text.
