Taught two years before the publication of the printed version (The Great Political Works from Machiavelli to the Present Day), it announces part of it (study of Machiavelli, Bodin, Richelieu, Hobbes, Locke, Montesquieu, Rousseau or Sieyès, Tocqueville, Marx, Lenin, Hitler) but it adds other authors which were not included in the published version (pagan antiquity and the Christian Middle Ages; Richelieu's political testament; Joseph de Maistre's considerations on France; Napoleon's thoughts on action, Benjamin Constant's Course in Constitutional Politics) and evokes some more recent authors (Prévost-Paradol, The New France; Stuart Mill, On Liberty; Henri de Man, Beyond Marxism; J. Burnham, The Age of Organizers; B. de Jouvenel, On Power). One might also question the possibility of publishing today this supplement to a work that has become one of the classics of political science.
