    Published a year before Pigeau's treatise, this text was quickly forgotten for almost 30 years and only achieved belated international success from 1830 onwards with the new edition published in 1832 (Caen, Mancel 1832, 2 vols. in-4), which was reprinted in Belgium (Brussels, Wahlen 1838-1840, 4 vols., with parallel editions of other works on civil procedure) and even translated into Italian (Commentario sul codice di procedura civile, Naples, Dura 1855, 2 vols. in-4). What characterizes this text is its constant concern to return to the fundamental principles of procedure and to avoid engaging in an exegetical commentary on the Code. The sections on the relationship between procedure and social duties are perfectly illustrative of this. This first edition is rare (missing at Berkeley, missing at Harvard, one copy at the BNF in a binding with the arms of Napoleon I).
