    W., a Polish jurist, was naturalized French in 1834 and became a professor of industrial legislation at the Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers. He became one of the most important French economists, specializing in monetary issues, and the text published here is a collection of his essential works, a new edition of his "Monetary Question," which is in particular one of the fundamental reflections on the notion of the gold standard and bimetallism. The text also gathers the opinions of all the important French and foreign jurists on the subject. It was published a few weeks before the start of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. (BNF no.
