Rather than this title, it would have been better to call the work “Chronicle of Political and Judicial Circles under the July Monarchy,” so remarkably is it recounted with verve, an incisive pen, and details rarely found elsewhere, detailing the various cases and portraits of the different men who made up this milieu. Far better than Mirecourt, Pinard paints a vivid portrait of this milieu and this era.
