The Letters of Atticus offer a critical reflection on the state of England at the end of the 18th century, and in particular on the Anglican religious system, from the perspectives of social organization, private law, and public law. The Thoughts, on the other hand, constitute a reflection specifically on French analyses of the English situation. It particularly criticizes the analyses of Montesquieu and De Lolme. We have the first edition of these two texts, which were initially published in French. The Letters are missing from the British Library in this edition, while the Thoughts (no. RD23A12361) are not held in the Library of Congress, nor are they available from the Library of the Royal Society of London, of which the author was a member. The original editions are also missing from the BNF, which on the other hand has an edition published under the auspices of Lammenais in 1828.
