Unfortunately, we are missing the second of the three volumes of this fundamental text (vol. 2, which notably contains a dictionary of legal terms), but we still have some truly essential texts. Vol. 1 is devoted in particular to the law of obligations, and Vol. 3 to procedure. But the most important text of all those just mentioned is probably the extremely rare treatise “De consuetudine, usu et stylo” on the legal status of custom, which, along with Dumoulin's texts on the subject, is one of the most essential sources of information. We should particularly highlight a few phrases that demonstrate the scope of the discussion: “Lex regia est filia consuetudinis; princeps potest abrogare consuetudines…” It is worth noting that part of this treatise constitutes a gloss on Louis XII's ordinance of 1499 concerning the reform of justice and the authority of customs. Superb printing with exceptional initial letters. A rare set despite the aforementioned flaws.
