Allou is probably one of the last great lawyers to inherit the liberal school of the early 19th century, who defended republican causes under the July Monarchy and the Second Empire. Among the texts reproduced, see in particular his plea for Gambetta for insulting the President of the Republic, his defense of the four Italians (accomplices of Mazzini) prosecuted for conspiracy against the Emperor's life, his defense of Trochu after the end of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, as well as some very interesting civil cases such as the execution of Auguste Comte's will, the assessment of the Suez Canal concession, and the case of the "factory owners of the suburbs" annexed to Paris by Haussmann. A rare collection.
