Under the influence of the encyclopedic spirit, two authors chose to present their collections of case law in alphabetical order. Brillon was the first (see above), followed by Denisart. This resulted in texts that were more comprehensive in terms of case law than traditional dictionaries such as those by Ferrière. Moreover, Denisart's text is of exceptional quality, making it a key source for the study of old law. Contrary to Dupin's assertion, this edition is not the last, as a new one was published in 1775.
