PERCEROU, 271 p.

HH was one of the Faculty of Law's great hopes. He was the only contributor to the Centenary Book of the Civil Code who was not a law professor. His study on "The Renewal of Legal Studies on the Consulate" remains, a century later, the definitive work on the subject. However, he was killed during the First World War (see the Golden Book of the Paris Faculty of Law, 1914-1918). We have here a copy of his thesis, which, as Ch. Lyon-Caen points out in his preface, received the Rossi Prize, the highest award then bestowed by the Paris Faculty of Law. It begins with a rich historical section, but its main interest lies in a general theory of civil societies as contrasted with that of "neighboring legal institutions" (associations, commercial companies, etc.). The work also bears a dedication to Professor Percerou. In every respect, a rare and remarkable volume.
