Spicilège etymologically means the gathering of ears of corn, and in this text we find notes by Montesquieu that remained unpublished as such, although some of them were later incorporated into other works in a more elaborate form. It includes, in particular, some of the notes that served as a source for The Spirit of the Laws, as well as general reflections on contemporary affairs, many of which touch upon legal and political questions. This is the first edition of this manuscript.
