The author has written numerous works on Napoleonic historiography. This one is one of the least known; it is notably neither cited nor even mentioned in the “blue book” on the Council of State, even though it is teeming with indications which we have not found trace of elsewhere (e.g., Napoleon’s dialogue upon his return from the island of Elba with the law faculty of Grenoble, concerning the reform of the code of civil procedure, or the ceremonial of the sessions of the Council of State (with a very precise description of the Tuileries hall where it sat).
