Dramard No. 2047: “In the first part of his book, A. B. reviews the different types of gifts permitted in favor of marriage; in the second, he deals with gifts between spouses; and the disposable portion between spouses is the subject of the third part. The judicious magistrate lays the foundations of his edifice in history and philosophy. Rigor of conception, breadth of vision, and soundness of method are the merits that first distinguish the plan of the work. The principles are strongly emphasized, and the examination of the questions then presents itself as a test in which they receive their final degree of precision and certainty. A debate full of measure and good taste, lively without being violent, adds to the value of the book through the appeal of easy reading.” This work is the subject of a bibliographical article by Chaix d'Est-Ange in the Moniteur of 1861, p. 1174. It has become quite rare.
