Boitard's lessons on civil procedure enjoyed astonishing success in the 19th century. The author died very young, and the text was only published posthumously, but it was subsequently reprinted several times between 1823 and 1890 (the edition presented here is one of the last). The reason for this success is easily understood, given the undeniable depth of thought it offers on the subject.
