Before the war, E. had begun drafting a general treatise on commercial law, which was not finally completed until 1959. In the interim, in 1947, he published a "manual," a modest title for this thousand-page work which, along with Ripert's, marked the renewal of commercial law doctrine after the war. The second and final edition of this manual is now titled "Course." It should be noted that E. was the driving force behind the commission for the reform of the Commercial Code, convened in the 1950s.
