    This work was considered the official commentary on Louis XIV's ordinances until the mid-18th century—it was, in fact, only published after being revised by Pussort, who was the principal drafter of these ordinances. This official status led to its varying scope depending on the circumstances. The edition presented here is of great interest because it is the most complete. First, it contains commentaries on the 1673 ordinance on commerce (in addition to those on the 1667 and 1670 ordinances on civil and criminal matters, and on the 1695 edict on dueling). But above all, it brings together all the rulings of the King's Council of State on the interpretation of the terms of the 1667 ordinance (which had appeared in a separate volume in 1671, see MDD cat. no. 10-029), a collection in which the technique of the appeal to the Court of Cassation begins to take shape, with these rulings reproduced for each one. The text also contains all the procedural provisions applicable before the King's Council of State (from the 1597 regulation to that of 1697), along with the interpretative rulings. It is, in total, an essential resource for the study of 17th-century ordinance law.
