The Colin and Capitant editions can be divided into three periods: First, from the 1st to the 6th edition (1914 to 1931), the original text was only slightly revised, as the pagination remained virtually unchanged from one edition to the next. The 7th edition reflects the beginning of J. de la Morandière's collaboration and is described as "completely revised and updated." A 9th edition, the last of this period, was published between 1939 (vol. 1) and 1945 (vol. 3). Finally, a concluding period begins with the 10th edition, of which Volume I appeared in 1942, Volume II in 1953, and Volume III in 1950, and the 11th edition, of which only Volume I, published in 1947, exists. This last edition, while not significantly different from the previous ones, nevertheless incorporates a number of updates (via addenda to the 10th edition for Volumes II and III). It is difficult to find perfectly consistent editions, as it seems that Volume III, probably less in demand than the other two, was not always reprinted, or sometimes only with a different date or edition number, but without internal changes. Our perfectly bound and consistent copy is representative of the first period and also includes an additional preface by H. Capitant on the developments related to the First World War.
