(BNF F39582 for a later edition; Lib. Congress Rarebook BX1937. F8). Loiseau notes in his treatise on lordships, “as the most honorable place is the church, it is the place where rank is most evident.” From this arose a highly elaborate legal system, of which Loiseau was the first commentator. Ferrière offered a rather harsh critique: “A short treatise with much confusion, first printed in an octavo volume and later in a quarto volume, because, to increase the size, the booksellers added the formal decrees that the author cited in his work.” One can be less severe upon rereading, as a certain charm emanates from this text (particularly regarding the system of confraternities, processions, etc.). It also contains a number of biographical notes, including a fairly detailed one on Loiseau's life.
