The collection of his works that we have here contains first his famous treatise on canon law but also, under the title “Praxisexigendi pensiones”, a treatise on the law of obligations. The “Tractatus varii” form a dictionary of legal terms of unusual scope and nature. The first treatises contain definitions of substantive legal terms, while the “Tractatus locorum communium argumentorum iuris” provides the meanings of structuring expressions used in legal arguments (see, for example, the 43 paragraphs devoted to the expression “à contrario” (p. 320)). The last treatise is a dictionary of Latin prepositions and adverbs used in a legal sense, from “ante” to “utique.” It is thus a major text of early 17th-century legal epistemology.
