Here we have a text of great rarity, which Dupin does not cite—Dupin's enumeration of Charondas's works is, moreover, curiously flawed—and which possesses the fundamental characteristic of being likely the first French legal dictionary arranged alphabetically. But beyond this aspect of presentation, this text stands out for its extreme clarity—significantly more comprehensible, for example, than Coquille's texts. The entry for "droits" (rights) is particularly noteworthy, where the author establishes a truly exceptional definition of the concepts of law and justice. This text provides useful additions and corrections to Charondas's other major work, *Les Pandectes* (see, for example, the discussion of "natural law," p. 185).
