This work is part of the very lively debate that arose after the Reformation concerning the validity of lending at interest in light of the precepts of canon law. Indeed, Protestants had lifted the Catholic prohibition on this issue, and many authors, such as Dumoulin (see below), had justified the practice. The present text, from a resolutely Catholic perspective, reaffirms the principle of this prohibition. But beyond this question, it offers some rare insights into partnership contracts in relation to canon law and, in particular, examines whether a person who profits from their participation in a partnership falls within the scope of usury. As is often the case with texts printed in Germany at the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th centuries, the printed portion of the text is subject to significant foxing.
