    Dominici was Bishop of Brescia until 1460. He had a great influence on the subject matter he addresses, which explains why a more scholarly edition of this work was produced in the 18th century. Following the Reformation crisis, this text aimed to define the discipline of bishops but also to affirm the preeminence of cardinals over bishops and, consequently, of the Roman Curia over the synods that could be held in the various provinces.
