Censures are ecclesiastical penalties by which a guilty Christian in absentia is deprived of certain spiritual goods. Among these is excommunication. This text, written by a 16th-century Spanish Jesuit, offers a comprehensive treatise on this subject, covering both the cases of censure and the procedure for possible absolution. Of particular note are the sections devoted to the power of the inquisitors in this matter.
