A key text on the origins of papal law. The Liber diurnus is a collection written in the 5th century that recorded all the rules of the papal chancery. Until the 11th century, it served as the basis for the international relations of the Popes, but it was subsequently highly contested and then suppressed. This is a very substantial introduction. This work was presented to the Society of Antiquaries of Normandy by Professor Guillouard, successor to Demolombe.
