Mazeaud describes the work accomplished by this thesis as follows: "His taste for discussion, the logic of his argumentation, and the subtlety of his reasoning—all these qualities have allowed him to demonstrate beyond doubt that, for 160 years, jurists have been ignorant of the true meaning of Articles 1307 et seq. of the Civil Code." The thesis is out of print. We deduce from the omitted pages that these are the passages that caught J. Carbonnier's attention: pp. 15–72, 161–176.
