    "The presentation and critical apparatus attest to the quality of EH's work: clarity, accuracy, meticulousness, and an exhaustive review down to the smallest draft and fragment (though correspondence, treated elsewhere, and non-literary pieces such as account books are excluded). After a succinct preface and introduction, everything is in place to facilitate the reader's task: a list of abbreviations, a concordance table between Godwin and Constant for the translation of Enquiry Concerning Political Justice, a directory of archival holdings classified by shelfmark, and an index of titles and incipits. Each of the 640 entries is boxed, and the typography varies according to the type of data provided. The task was not easy, given the fragmentation of the manuscripts and C.'s habit of reusing every scrap of paper at different times to fill in the gaps in his handwriting, hence problems of identification and reconstruction.
