    9 vols. in-8, full mottled blond calf, gilt titles and volumes on garnet and olive leather plates, spine with 5 raised bands decorated with gilt tools, compartments richly decorated with fleurons, floral motifs and gilt framing fillets, gilt roll on the edges, red edges, headbands and vignettes, (headcaps sometimes slightly damaged, edges rubbed, binding slightly worn, rare foxing and spotting), very fine copy, approx. 3600 pp.
    This dictionary was so widely acclaimed upon its publication that the author, whose work, the Dictionary of the Police, will forever be remembered as a major work in legal history, had to produce three successive updates, each covering a different subject. The classification system chosen by Des Essarts is rather unusual for this type of work, but it undeniably makes it easier to use. A very fine copy.
