In a previous catalogue (nos. 11-34), we presented Prost de Royer's revised edition of Brillon's dictionary, the seventh volume of which ends with the entry for "assignation" (summons). Here we have the original three-volume folio edition of this dictionary. Dupin (no. 863) considers it a "poor work," which is a more than unfair opinion. Indeed, this is the author who cites the most authors and rulings under each entry in a work presented as a dictionary. Moreover, it should be considered, on the whole, more as a dictionary of rulings than as an encyclopedic dictionary. It is also a beautiful and extremely rare item, especially in this condition.
