"The symposium held on April 21 and 22, 2006, draws our attention to the relative distortion of intellectual property law in the wake of the Internet and digital revolution. These events compel legislators and courts to shift the focus of intellectual property protection in a direction more favorable to the public interest, without betraying the fundamental principles of intellectual property. When private copying emerged in the 1980s with VHS tapes and magnetic tapes, intellectual property law adapted. It seems wise to consider a further adaptation. The points for reflection gathered at this symposium provide a relevant framework for gaining the necessary perspective for a potential adaptation of the law."
