    Undoubtedly one of the most important texts of the constitutional theory of the Third Republic, with fundamental developments on the theory of suffrage, the role of the head of state, and the parliamentary system, the author particularly challenging the logic of this system. It appeared in 1868, the year of the original edition, with no fewer than nine editions, which should more accurately be described as reprints since they are all identical.
