    The author was one of the leading reformers of 19th-century French Roman law. He notably translated a number of texts, including the Institutes of Gaius, discovered in the 19th century. His translated and annotated version of the Pandects, presented here, is of good quality. This scholarly edition offers a new translation of Justinian's Pandects along with a commentary. Whether this is an essential work on Roman law is not clear.
