"The collection published by Mr. Carolus-Barré is intended to be the counterpart, for a portion of the langue d'oïl region, of the work previously published by Mr. Clovis Brunei under the same title, *Les plus anciennes chartes en langue provençale*, and containing the oldest diplomatic texts in langue d'oc. This first volume, devoted to langue d'oïl charters, applies only to the original documents preserved in the Oise Departmental Archives, in Beauvais. It is therefore, first and foremost, not an inventory of archives, but a catalogue of the original acts in French found in series G and H of the Oise Archives, arranged chronologically for a period from 1241, the date of the oldest document, to Easter 1286."
