    The author was a high-ranking magistrate—First Advocate General at the Brussels Court of Appeal, later a Counselor at the Court of Cassation—who also served on the commission tasked with the partial revision of the Civil Code. He published extensively, notably numerous legislative commentaries on new laws. He was one of the editors of the journal *Pasinomie* and directed the important *Revue des revues de droit*. In 1848, he published a Belgian Civil Code, which he presented to the Minister of Justice, Haussy, as the “subject matter for a bill ordering the promulgation of a Belgian Civil Code.” That same year, he published, for the same purpose, the Belgian Codes of Civil Procedure and Commercial Law, and the following year, the Belgian Code of Criminal Procedure.
