octavo, full marbled calf, gilt title on a page of title in garnet morocco with gilt fillets framing, spine with raised bands decorated with gilt friezes and fleurons, speckled edges, (title page missing, some foxing and spotting on some pages, some pencil underlining and ink annotations), XVI-1151 p.
Despite what the title page claims regarding the expanded nature of the work, it must be noted that from one edition to the next (with the exception of those after the 7th) the work maintains a high degree of continuity. This is not a flaw, since it is clearly one of the most important treatises on Roman law of the 20th century and still one of the most widely used today. An 8th edition was produced under the direction of F. Senn (1919, 1223 pp.).
