"G. does not intend to provide a treatise on mixed-economy companies nor an exposition of regional planning problems; he proposes to describe the various cases in which mixed-economy companies can assist public authorities by undertaking the study or implementation of infrastructure and economic expansion projects. The first three chapters trace the evolution of the mixed economy, on the one hand, and of regional planning agencies, on the other; G. shows what the contribution of mixed-economy companies—both in terms of capital and as project managers—can be to the expansion and decentralization efforts undertaken by the State. After a detailed analysis of the regulations governing mixed-economy companies, G. cites some recent concrete examples (National Company of the Lower Rhône and Languedoc Region, Lorraine Basin Development Company, Seine-et-Marne Development Study Company)." Numerous tables and administrative appendices—decrees and laws—usefully complement this already classified and well-documented study. Reading this work—a basic tool for the development of new mixed-economy companies—is essential for those concerned with regional planning and economic expansion in France.” (Population, no. 2/1959, p. 367).
