    This Commission, founded in 1952, "aims to defend and promote the principles of justice which it considers to have universal and lasting value. In its Declaration of Purposes, the Commission proclaimed that wherever these principles are systematically violated or disregarded, it intends to contribute to their restoration by denouncing unjust practices. The International Commission has the honor of presenting to members of the legal professions worldwide this Collection of Documents on the Administration of Justice in most countries behind the Iron Curtain. The four parts of the Collection concern respectively Public Law, Criminal Law, Civil and Economic Law, and Labor Law. [...] The Collection includes verified documents and witness statements, capable of providing any jurist with compelling evidence." In the sinister uniformity that their variety suggests, these documents bear witness to the existence of a system in which justice is subservient to political ends, ends of a class, it is said, ends in reality of a ruthless clique of the Party.
