    One of R. Monier's earliest texts reveals his "method, that of a rigorous technician of Roman law, which begins above all with a close exegesis of the sources (...)." The author addresses one of his favorite themes, "the good faith nature of the sales contract and the obligation to emancipate, where textual analysis is enriched by rigorous and constructive critiques of interpolation." This publication "earned him a prominent place among modern Roman law scholars. (...) In addition to widespread renown, he engaged in a sharp controversy with F. Haymann; (...) he focused on demonstrating how the modifications made to the texts during Justinian's reign corresponded to the application of new rules and concepts specific to Byzantine law. (...) Without aligning himself with the critical schools then flourishing, Monier sought to highlight how interpolation allows for the reconstruction of a subject matter, according to the different conceptions of classical law and that of Justinian." » (Maxime Lemosse, Revue du Nord, n° 158/1958, p. 153-160).
