This rare work, written by the holder of the Chair of Procedure at Strasbourg and former President of the Strasbourg Bar Association, is heavily influenced by German legal doctrine, at least in its method of exposition. The preface, moreover, contains a very serious critique of the article-by-article commentary on the Code, advocating instead the "scientific method"—a remarkable anticipation of the expression that would be reused at the beginning of the 20th century by Saleilles and Gény. The exceptional quality of the definitions contained in this work deserves particular mention.
