An exceptional work written by a 17th-century Neapolitan lawyer, structured as a utopia: jurists, once deceased, find themselves not in heaven or hell, but on an island reserved for them, thus allowing all eras to meet. But, contrary to what one might expect, their discussions do not focus solely on high-level legal points, but also on turf wars and gossip. We learn, for example, that Cujas had the unfortunate habit of not supporting his disciples when their works were challenged, or that Doujat, a specialist in Roman law who was still alive when Gennaro wrote this work, had plagiarized Godefroy's manual entirely in his history of civil law. The author also criticizes the fashion for abridged manuals, which apparently already existed in the 17th century.
